  How do you feel about birthdays and Christmas now?

  i wonder...for those of you who were brought up as a jw or who have been "in" for many years, how do you feel about birthdays and christmas and celebrations in general now?.

  the indoctrination/brainwashing is very strong.

  once you are out, or, perhaps, still in but totally disillusioned and sure that it is all a lie, not the truth, do you find that you are determined to celebrate like mad to make up for what you missed, or do you find you have a lingering sense of guilt, however irrational you may now think it is?.

  even when still "in" we kinda celebrated birthdays. that is we hit a bar where they would give a free birthday drink and get drunk. not much has changed, just that we give small gifts (i never know what kind of gifts are "expected", never learned that, hate it). "we" being several other inactive/dfed JWs from the same congregation.

  as for christmas, i never learned how to celebrate it, so i pass. i do join public santa claus style festivities though, but i can't see myself putting up a tree and christmas lighting at home.

  inactive ones are shunned by many JWs anyway - inactivity is almost as bad a stigma as being DFd. fading is mainly an option for people who still got family in that most possibly never will get out and don't want those ties cut. they can still hound you, but after a while they usually just leave it at that if you also leave them in peace. so no picketing halls if that's your thing.

  "Safeguard Your Mind" assembly targeting apostate thinking

  i recently attended the second day of the 2 day assembly for safeguarding your mind.

  the first talk was entitled "feed your mind at jehovah's table".

  the first portion of this talk specifically targeted apostates warning members to not listen to them "even if they were once strong in the truth or had great responsiblity in the congregation".

  Watchtower teachings on the length of human existence.

  anyone know the current wt teachings on the length of time humans have been in existence?

  do they still teach that the first man and woman were created approximately 6,000 years ago?

  have they made any comments on archeological findings that show paleo-indians living in the america's 10,000+ years ago?

  every christian group that takes a literal approach to the bible teaches about the same thing. and the non-literal christians who believe it's all some kind of metaphor make similar stunts in their reasoning. nothing to see here.

  "Melchizedek" might mean, "My king is Jupiter" or "my God is Jupiter"...

  i just recently learned that in hebrew, zedek also means jupiter.

  when did this happen is unknown.

  and possibibly that the planet jupiter was responsible for some catastrophes and things happening on earth during that time.

  jupiter being a roman god, this sounds a little strange. for what i know though, the greeks called every main god of other civs zeus. just like the israelites seem to have called pretty much every god other than jhwh baal.

  you'd have to create a proper worded press release, contact media agencies and ask them who's responsible for topics like that, then link them to the press release. they get tons and tons of information every day, keep that in mind.

  i noticed in the "magic" thread many former jw's no longer adhere to the bible as the unerring and accurate word of god.

  if you feel this way, can you please list any specific reasons/arguments as to why not.

  while my current account is pretty young, i've been visiting this site for more than 10 years. i've been a JW defender back then. tried to make sense of it all. i guess it was more of a try to defend the WT teachings to myself.

  things change. all my life i was made to believe that JWs are the only "true religion" - "the truth". from early age i knew that christendom was babylon the great whore. i knew that jehovah doesn't like images. i knew that christians don't participate in wars. and so on.

  so when you finally get your head out of that religion, what's left. some try to find a similar religion like the christadelphians or adventists or the like. but one thing the JWs got right, is that all religion is false. the only religion you still have to remove is theirs.

  i didn't go from JW straight to atheist. it was a journey. but once you start breaking fences, you might as well break all of them.

  i reckon cedars stole his screen name from that.

  what about a world shaking apostafest in cedar points, maybe jesus joins in with some new discriminating light.

  How has God shown Himself in your life?
